Postpartum Mood Disorders (PPMD)  
(also known as postpartum depression and anxiety)

What you need to know:

10-15% of women report a depressed or anxious mood after giving birth.
- sometimes within days, sometimes later in the first year.  

This condition is highly treatable!
- a combination of therapy, support and/or medications can help you feel better.

Commonly reported symptoms:
- I can't sleep even when my baby sleeps
- I feel moody; I'm crying for no reason
- I feel anxious about my baby's well-being
- I feel inept, like I'm a bad parent
- I feel trapped
- I feel like taking care of my baby is unmanageable
- I don't feel close to my baby

Do I have Postpartum Depression?
If taking care of your baby is affecting your life in a negative way, it's helpful to receive
support. The most important task is to help you feel better so you can enjoy your baby.  
Although it's easy to get stuck thinking about a diagnosis, a label may not matter.  
Getting help now is the most important goal and the only focus necessary.
